To much arms in your golf swing?
Keep your right elbow above your left elbow on the back swing, and then behind your left arm at the top of the backswing. This will promote the proper body rotation and eliminate the arms swinging the club independently.
If you can see your elbow like the following picture it means you are either moving your arms more than your shoulder rotation (Fig 1) or that the shoulder is not down enough at the top of the backswing. (Fig 2)
If you move the shoulders and the hands at the same time the right elbow will be above the left at the half way point of the backswing. (Fig 3) Then continue to move the shoulders and hands together until the left shoulder has replaced the right shoulder's starting position. Here the right elbow should be behind the left arm not visible from the front view or your swing.(Fig 4)
Most people don't think they can complete a backswing rotation. If you don't think you can physically do this, it is time to take a lesson from the staff at the Del Mar Golf Center and we will help you turn properly. You may surprise yourself.
By the way here's another good tip, get a mirror that you can swing into and check yourself routinely. You can get a cheap full length mirror for $10 at Target.
If you have any questions about this or any other aspect of your golf swing come by and talk to one of the instructors at the Del Mar Golf Center.
