Consistency as defined in Webster's dictionary states, a fixed adherence to the same action, principles, form, etc.
Consistency is what makes a great golf swing. The fastest and easiest way to improve your game is to "set-up" to the ball the same way each and every time, to adapt a consistent "pre shot routine". Finding a routine that will allow you to set-up the same way every time is the key to a staying consistent.
A good routine will allow you to have the correct posture, stance and ball position. Many golfers set up to the ball inconsistently from shot to shot, which makes them hit the ball from a different position every time, causing inconsistency in the swing and leads to poor shots.
4 steps to a simple routine
1- Start with your feet together and the ball positioned in the middle of your feet with your arms slightly extended in front of you. You can see if your clubface is "square" or not. From this position you will be able to lean into the shot from your hop sockets, feeling the head of the club fall behind the ball.

2- At this point my posture is correct and I am now ready to "walk" my feet apart.
3- I start by taking a small step out with my left foot to create the correct ball position.

4- The last step is to take a wider step out with your right foot to stabilize your stance and now you are ready to hit the ball.
There are many different variations of the three grips and their features. Tip submitted by Adam Andrew, Staff Instructor. Check with any one of the instructors at the Del Mar Golf Center to see how these ideas can apply to you and your golf swing.
