Pitch
A pitch has more "air time" than ground time. It is a lofted shot, usually with a more lofted club, which flies a greater distance than it rolls. A pitch shot may use more cocking of the wrists and hands to create a second lever on the backswing only.
Ball position - Centered or slightly forward of center.
Chip
A chip shot usually has less "air time" than ground time, rolling a greater distance than it flies, usually with a less lofted club. Chip shots are usually firm wristed strokes which resemble a pendulum or putting style motion on the backswing and the thru swing.
Ball position - Centered or slightly back of center
For both types of shots, place slightly more weight on your left side, open your stance slightly, and choke down 1/2 to 1 inch on the club.
Practicing these techniques on near the green will be reflected in significantly lower scores. If you have any questions or would like to book a lesson to improve your short game visit www.DelMarGolfCenter.com.
