Rotate Your Head - May 2008

Rotate your head to get a better shoulder turn!

Too many people either tip their head forward or slide their head sideways on the backswing.  Both moves hinder proper shoulder rotation and can lead to "Coming over the Top", Slices, Early Releases and Fat Shots.

People who tip their head forward on their backswing are usually trying to keep their eye on the ball.  But when your head is so still it forces a reverse pivot and a reverse spine angle, see below.

Sliding the head to the right might help you get to the ball, but it also makes it difficult for your shoulders to turn.  Even a few inches will alter the spine angle from address, making it more difficult to get back to the ball without compensation, see below.

Rotating your head to the right is the only way to complete your backswing without altering your spine angle.  Now you can unwind back to the ball on the swing plane without any compensation, see below.
