Take the club back with your body, not your hands. Too many players take the club back with their hands and arms instead of matching the club with their body. This sends the club inside or under the swing plane, resulting in many directional problems.
Keep your hands, arms and club in the same relative position as at address during the first few feet of your takeaway. Don't hinge the wrists or open the clubface with your hands and the club will travel up the swing plane.
A good setup is important in order to achieve this goal.
